  • Firefighters: When the Exiles break through the defenses set by the Managers, Firefighters spring into action to extinguish the emotional distress. This often involves engaging in impulsive or extreme behaviors to numb the pain.


The Role of the Self in IFS


The Self is the compassionate and curious core of the individual. It is characterized by qualities such as calmness, clarity, compassion, confidence, creativity, curiosity, courage, and connectedness. In IFS therapy, the goal is to help the individual access the Self and use its resources to heal and integrate the different parts. When the Self leads, it brings harmony, balance, and healing to the internal system.
