Earlier this week, Kaela Rae Vance, LPCC-S, owner of Teal Saguaro Wellness, had the privilege of speaking at Fairfield Christian Academy—spending time with educators as they prepared for the demands and opportunities of a new season in the classroom.
In collaboration with the Chase Haley Project, this event provided a valuable opportunity for educators and staff to step back and invest in their own well-being, while also reflecting on how they support the students they serve.
This meaningful opportunity created space for reflection, learning, and connection—centering not only student well-being, but the emotional health of the educators who support them every day.
Centering Social & Relational Wellness in Schools
During her time with staff, Kaela led a conversation focused on Social & Relational Wellness, exploring how connection, emotional safety, and healthy relationships shape both the learning environment and overall school culture.
As a holistic mental health counselor specializing in grief, trauma, and emotional wellness, Kaela’s work emphasizes the importance of looking beyond surface-level behaviors to understand the deeper needs of individuals.
Educators engaged in thoughtful discussion around:
The role of connection in student engagement and regulation
How emotional safety impacts both learning and behavior
Ways to foster stronger, healthier relationships within the classroom
The importance of supporting their own well-being as professionals
Recognizing the Heart of Education
One of the most impactful parts of the day was simply being in a room full of individuals who show up daily with purpose, care, and commitment.
Teaching is more than delivering content—it’s relational, emotional, and deeply human work. Opportunities like this allow educators to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the impact they make far beyond academics.
Kaela shared her appreciation for the dedication and energy of the Fairfield Christian Academy staff, recognizing the powerful role they play in shaping not just students’ education, but their sense of safety, belonging, and growth.
Supporting the Whole Educator
A key message throughout the conversation was this: educator well-being is not separate from student success—it is essential to it.
When teachers feel supported, grounded, and connected, they are better able to create environments where students can thrive.
By bringing awareness to relational wellness and emotional health, schools can take meaningful steps toward creating sustainable, supportive cultures for both staff and students.
Grateful for the Opportunity
Teal Saguaro Wellness is deeply grateful to Fairfield Christian Academy for the opportunity to be part of such an impactful day.
Experiences like this reinforce the importance of bringing mental health conversations into educational spaces—and the powerful ripple effect that occurs when educators are supported in their own wellness.
We’re honored to continue partnering with schools and organizations across Central Ohio to support connection, resilience, and whole-person well-being.
